Teen mums encouraged to follow ambition

Almost 1000 teenage girls become mums in Northern Ireland each year but with the help of Fixers, a charity helping young people to use their past to fix the future, Rebecca Finlay says they should not give up their future.

The 20-year-old Castledawson mum said: “When I was 18, I had my whole life ahead planned. I was going to go to be a teacher, I was going to take a gap year and go to India and then after my A Levels, I found out I was pregnant.

The pressure to be a part of the “popular” crowd is not a new ordeal confronting teens, but the advanced technology may make them especially pronounced for teens today than during the “corded phone” days of their parents.

With their parents’ permission, some girls of the Summit Area YMCA swim team and Westover School in Middlebury, Connecticut opened up to “CBS This Morning” about the issues they’re facing.

Teens, cancer and sexuality focus of new study by Calgary researcher

Victoria Boehm, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma when she was 16.

One-of-a-kind research in Calgary is looking at how boyfriends and girlfriends are affected when a teen is diagnosed with cancer.

Sexuality and cancer in young adults and the vulnerable teen years is a topic that hasn’t been studied before, according to Nancy Moules, a professor in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary.
